Dr Doug Nicholson has been in private surgical practice since 1977 and has established a large private consulting and surgical practice at Sunnybank Private Hospital.  Doug has experience in orthopaedic, vascular, head, neck and cardio-thoracic surgery and is now practicing as a general surgeon.  Dr Nicholson has a special interest in obesity and strives for excellence in this field which led to the establishment of the Sunnybank Obesity Centre.

Doug has been involved as a PI in an international surgical clinical trial through many phases since 2004 and hence developed the Sunnybank Research Centre.  This site excelled consistently in patient recruitment and is number one site in the world.  Dr Nicholson takes his responsibility as a PI very seriously focusing on recruitment, protocol adherence and ICH/GCP guidelines.  Doug has brought together a dedicated team of specialists including a cardiologist, Oncologist and General Practitioner to work with him in the future at the Sunnybank Research Centre.  Doug is backed up by very experienced study co-ordinators who focus on total quality management.  The study co-ordinators have trial experience in international trials in obesity, cardiovascular, renal, womens health, vascular, endocrine, surgical and device trials.

With the recent addition of the General Manager, Aletha Ward, Sunnybank Research Centre is now in an exciting phase of expansion and is committed to delivering trials in a broad range of therapeutic areas to the community.
